21st World Congress of Accountants in India

India (ICAI) is all set to host the 21st (WCOA) World Congress of Accountants, the Kumbh of accountants, for the 1st time in 118 years of its existence, ICAI president Debashis Mitra stated. The event will be held from the month of November 18 to 21 after outbidding France.
About 6000 big accountants from 130 nations will participate in the program physically. And the event will take place in the newly made Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
“It is a very proud moment for the ICAI that it has been able to host the World Congress for the 1st time in 118 years of its existence. We were successful in outbidding France in this round,” Mitra further said.
While 6000 delegates from across the world would directly join the Congress, and another 10,000 are expected to come in virtually,” said CA. Dr Debashis Mitra, President, ICAI. The theme of this World Congress this time would be `Building Trust Enabling Sustainability’.
In sharing future plans for the Institute, C.A. Dr. Mitra stated that ICAI, which had played a great role in assisting the govt. usher in the GST regime has geared up in a big way to satisfy the challenges as well as the adoption of emerging digital competencies and nascent technologies like blockchain ecosystem, artificial intelligence, crypto-currencies, and deep data analytics.
Further, ICAI has submitted to the (DCA) Department of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, a draft of the latest curriculum keeping in mind the enhancements of technology and also satisfying the New Education Policy of the government.
Officials, members, and students of ICAI’s 13 branches from the eastern area came collectively at a conclave in the city of Kolkata to assess the influence of climate change and carbon emissions; the challenges of disruptive technologies; meet sustainability goals, and stay related in their profession by catch up on the new developments in the field of auditing and accounting.
