97th World Sangeet Tansen Festival

The 97th edition of the World Sangeet Tansen festival began in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. A 5-day World Sangeet Tansen celebration began from December 25 to December 30 in the metropolis. The set of the program has been made on the harmony of the Siddhanath temple located in Omkareshwar. Many artists not only from the country India but also from nations abroad have participated in this music festival.

Some Facts

Over the years, new lyrical traditions came into being and grew in the state of Madhya Pradesh that respected and nurtured the art of its musicians. As of today, Madhya Pradesh is home to 4 of the greatest gharanas of Hindustani classical music — Gwalior gharana, Senia gharana, Maihar gharana, and Indore gharana. And among these, the well-known ones are the gharanas of the Maihar and Gwalior. The Maihar gharana has shown the globe stars like sitar legend Ravi Shankar, flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia, and sarod maestro, Allaudin Khan. On the other hand, the Gwalior Gharana has created great artists like Malini Rajurkar, Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Kumar Gandharva, DV Paluskar, and Mukul Shivputra.

Coming to the festival, the proper opening of the ceremony has taken place on Sunday, December 26 at 6 pm. Cultural and Tourism Minister Usha Thakur and the CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has inaugurated the fest. Before the commencement of the festival, there will be rituals executed at the Tansen mausoleum spot.

A count of 9 musical shows will be kept at the function. The first 7 concerts will be held at the set crafted at the mausoleum of Tansen and the crypt of Mohammad Ghaus. The 8th show will be kept on the banks of the Jhilmil river, in Behat, which is the birthplace of Tansen on 30 December. The last brief concert will be retained at Gwalior Fort on the exact day.

All the schedules will be kept in 2 shifts, the morning will start from 10 am to 3 pm and the evening process will start from 6 pm to 10 pm.

Because of the pandemic, the foreign artist did not bear a part in the function last year. But, this year, all the essential procedures of the COVID 19 will be followed. The foreign participants who are taking part will be tested for COVID-19 before partaking in the program. This festival holds great significance in the music art industry.
