A New NIELIT Center in Leh, Ladakh

Just recently, the Union Cabinet Minister for IT and Electronics, Ashwini Vaishnaw has inaugurated the (NIELIT) National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology hub at Leh, Extension Centre Kargil. Also, an IT Enabled Incubation Centre for Handloom and Handicraft Sector on the day of 17 May 2022 via video conferencing.

The function of inauguration was held at NIELIT Campus Leh, which was attended by R K Mathur, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, Commissioner Secretary IT of Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, the Member of Parliament from Ladakh, and also Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi who is a Director-General at NIELIT. Furthermore, those who connected online are Dr Jaideep Kumar Mishra who is an Additional Secretary and Feroz Ahmad Khan who is a Chief Executive Councillor at LAHDC, Kargil and the ministry of Electronics IT (MeitY).

The Minister elaborated that in line with the vision of the Prime Miniter to give saturation, the whole of UT of Ladakh would be provided with mobile connectivity. Even if there are 10 villages on top of the hill, then the connectivity will be given. The communication ministry is also working on various technological solutions as a substitute to optical fibre and once it is done and regulatory requirements are frozen, the coverage would be given in each corner of not only Ladakh but also Kargil, Jammu & Kashmir in the 1st phase.

He further said that with the vision of Aatamanirbhar Bharat of the PM of India, an indigenous 5G stack is all-ready which will be further used for upgradation of the BSNL towers and the 1st phase will become out in the month of September 2022 and in the year 2023, all of the hilly states comprising the UT of Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, etc. would have upgraded BSNL towers.
