All About Earth Day

Every year, April 22 is celebrated as Mother Earth Day. The day is celebrated to create awareness regarding the rampant enhancement in pollution and different activities which directly or indirectly pollute and harm the environment and result in the destruction of our planet. The idea behind this day came into existence after many challenges like pollution, and smog became great reasons for environmental damage. In the 1970s, Earth Day was founded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson to promote ecology and raise some awareness of the issues surrounding the earth.

Senator Gaylord Nelson was very much concerned regarding the deteriorating situation of the planet Earth so he decided to join the student anti-war protest energy with a public consciousness about air and water pollution. Gaylord Nelson thought about introducing Earth Day after he, just like the rest of the globe, saw the horror of a huge oil spill in Santa Barbara, California.

Importance: It is very important as this day is organized to shed light on the environmental topics which are surrounding the planet and take action to save it!
Theme 2022: The theme for the 2022 year’s International Mother Earth Day is ‘Invest in our Planet.’ The theme highlights the requirement for people to come together and start taking measures to protect biodiversity and the planet.
