MINE CONDITIONS
Conditions inside the coal mines all around the globe are treacherous, even to this current date. Mines would collapse, killing the miners. The dust would cause many respiratory problems for the people. Their risk of dying from lung cancer can also enhance.
The miners belong to deprived people from villages and cannot usually afford treatments. There are examples where females are paid less wage than men or get sexually assaulted.
History and significance in India: In our country India, the coal mining business started in the year 1774. It was when the East India Company exploited the Raniganj coalfield which is situated in the Asansol and Durgapur area. It falls along the bank of River Damodar that passes Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Later in the year 1853, steam locomotives enhanced the demand for coal by railways. Coal-rich regions in the nation comprise Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, and West Bengal as well as some central and southern parts of the country.
