Liger was one of the favorably expected films of the year 2022. Featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, the movie is directed by filmmaker Puri Jagannadh. Though the movie took a promising start at the box office, the collections declined after the 1st day of its release. Liger outstretched to mixed responses from the audience and detractors alike.
The film made Rs 60 lakh on day 8 in India and theatres started to pull it down. Mumbai’s theatre owner Manoj Desai or Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir fame, has also chosen to not conduct any shows and wait for Brahmastra. He was the one who had just called Vijay Deverakonda ‘arrogant’ and ‘anaconda’ for his bindaas comments on the Boycott Bollywood viral trend. The Puri Jagannadh directorial, packaged as a ‘Pan World’ movie has failed to meet any anticipations.
Now, many articles have been surfing claiming that the Liger failure at the box office has moved the actor Vijay Deverakonda severely. As per a well-placed industry insider, Vijay has been running through an emotional roller coaster lift right now, feeling angry, upset, and disappointed. “He is also feeling embarrassed since he went out there and said a lot of things as he was very positive about this project. He had put in a lot of prep and hard work into Liger but it didn’t pay off,” said the citation further telling that the star has been assuming about where did he go incorrect in his interpretation of the movie.
Talking about the budget, this movie “Liger” was made at a staggering expense of over Rs. 100 crore, with Rs. 35 crores as the greatest man’s fee and another 25 crores shelled out to accommodate a highly ludicrous cameo by Mike Tyson, something he does not even remember.
The thrashing of Liger has also affected Puri and Vijay’s upcoming movie, Jana Gana Mana, in more forms than one. What are your thoughts about this?
