First Indian To Win a Silver Medal in Para Archery
Para-archer Pooja Jatyan has created history as she became the 1st Indian to earn a silver medal in an individual of the Para World Championships. Pooja lost to Petrilli Vincenza, an Italian player, in the summit clash. The Indian player has been afflicted with polio and raced to a 3–1 lead but the world №7 Italian used her experience to come back and win 24–24, 23–21, 26–28, 24–26, 25–27. India closed its campaign with 2 silver medals, a first for the country. This championship was held in Dubai, UAE.
After the Jatyan’s historic run at the World Championships, she gained many regards congratulations from the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and former CM of the state Jharkhand Arjun Munda. She also got regards and praises from the Minister of State in Ministry of Printing and Stationery and from the former captain of Indian Hockey Team, Sandeep Singh.
Pooja Jatyan comes from the Gurugram, haryana. The player said she did not expect to earn a medal in the singles category. She added: “Coming into this event, I did not expect a medal in the individual, rather in the mixed. Harry Bhaiya (Harvinder Singh) and I make a powerful pair.”
The country India has earned or we can say won 2 Silver for the 1st time in the Para Archery Championship. The compound pair of Shyam Sundar Swamyand Jyoti Baliyan had previously opened India’s block by winning a silver medal.
Earlier in the day, Pooja made history by becoming the 1st Indian to enter the final in an individual category of the Para World Championships. Pooja stands back from 0–2 down to defeat a 49-year-old Hazel Chaisty of Britain 6–2 to get to the finals. And, she has definitely done her best in the final round as well. She has made India proud and we are very proud of such athletes.
