Haryana Won the Title of Khelo India Youth Games 2021

Hosts Haryana won the (KIYG) Khelo India Youth Games 2021 with 52 gold medals, of which, 10 came in the area of boxing on the final day of the event. The late surge helped Haryana leapfrog the 2020 winners Maharashtra on the KIYG medals tally.

Haryana also got their hands on 39 silver and 46 bronze medals, taking their whole medal table to 137 medals — the highest haul by any state.

Maharashtra, on the other hand, managed to get 45 gold, 40 silver and 40 bronze medals to come 2nd with 125 medals. Also, Karnataka, with 22 gold medals, 17 silver and 28 bronze nedals, got 3rd position with total of 67 medals.

Details: The Khelo India Youth Games of the year 2021 began on the day of June 4 across various venues with Haryana’s Panchkula being the host of the bulk of the events. The Games, which are an essential part of the Indian government’s Khelo India event, concluded on June 13.

Among many noteworthy individual staging, Maharashtra’s Sanyukta Kale bagged all the 5 gold medals in rhythmic gymnastics. Also, weightlifter Harshada Garud broke the youth national record in the girls’ category of 45kg by lifting 83kg to grab the gold.

Further, Haryana’s Shiva Narwal, a member of the air pistol team at the junior world in Lima last year, also won the medal of gold in the air pistol event.

Another Haryana player Unnati Hooda, the youngest badminton player from India make it to the Uber Cup team, written a comeback against the previous junior world №1 Tasnim Mir to get the girl’s badminton title.

On the event, Anurag Thakur, the union minister of sports, handed over the winning trophy to Haryana with CM of Haryana, ML Khattar and also sports minister Sandeep Singh. “The games have seen 12 new national (youth) records being made and I congratulate all the athletes. Haryana and Maharashtra have always been fighting hard for the top spot and I congratulate Haryana for winning the overall winner’s trophy. We are planning to organise Khelo India Youth Games and Khelo India University Games between November this year and March next year and we hope more players will break national records in these events,” said Thakur.
