The Delhi govt. has come out with the latest scheme for communication of free-of-cost training in creative areas like music, dance, fine arts, theatre, and crafts in schools that belong to the Directorate of Education.

Private institutions, individuals and NGOs would be engaged in communicating these skills to the students of Delhi Government schools, and also to those who are studying in non-government schools. But, the students who are studying in private schools would have to pay.

Training in these fields would be passed on inside the Delhi Government schools’ area after school hours, and the needed infrastructure available at such schools would be utilized.

According to a Circular issued by the Government’s Directorate of Education, interested private academies, and NGOs would be needed to apply online. And, based on the applications, the Heads of Schools would be needed to make lists of students for these creative fields.

On working days of the school, during summers, training in creative fields may be provided till 6 p.m. only, and during winters till 5 pm.

Hobby classes may be held occur during Summer Vacation between the time of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. without compromising on any other teaching-learning in schools.

Academies/Individuals/NGOs will have to give free-of-cost training to all the students of the schools of the Directorate of Education. Nevertheless, they can impart training to some private students on a chargeable basis, but the ratio must be managed at 50:50 i.e. at least 50 % of students doing training should be from the govt. schools of the Directorate of Education and 50 % of students may be enrolled on a chargeable basis from non-Government schools.

Further, I must mention that students of the concerned school should not be denied admission into the classes being given in their own school, even if the number of School students exceeds 50% of the total students enrolled.

Nevertheless, the quality of training for govt. school students should be on par with the non-Government school students, said the Circular.

I think it is a good step by the government of Delhi.
