Jal Shakti Abhiyan in Manipur

Manipur’s CM N Biren Singh has launched the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch The Rain’ 2022 at a program which was held at the CM’s Secretariat. The campaign has a goal for intensive water conservation strategies in the identified water-stressed blocks and districts.

Discussing the event, CM Biren Singh stated that the campaign would be taken up in all the districts of the state with the theme of “Catch the Rain, where it falls when it falls” and also the campaign would be executed from March 29 till November 30, the year 2022.

Nodal Department- The Nodal Department for this particular campaign is the State Water Resources Department. They would be accountable for implementing this campaign.

What will be done implement this campaign?

Under this “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” campaign, various Jal Shakti Kendras would be built up in the State’s districts. These kendras would act as knowledge hubs for creating awareness about water conservation methods. Further, special concentration will also be gained on the mapping of springs shed and springs while the campaign. The mapped springs and spring sheds will be renewed and properly managed.

Till 30th November of the year 2022, this campaign will be executed. Further, rainwater harvesting strategies will be set up in all the Government Offices, Schools, and Colleges across the state so that water rain can be harvested, stored, and treated for several uses.

At the event, the CM also stated that water conservation is very much related to the Green Manipur Mission of the state govt. and would further help in the maintenance of cleanliness in the state. Hence, water conservation and Green Manipur Mission must be operated simultaneously, he added.

I think this is a good and effective step by the government of Manipur.
