Japan’s ‘Order of the Rising Sun’ conferred on Narayanan Kumar

The Govt. of Japan has declared the conferment of “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” on Narayanan Kumar. Narayanan Kumar is the vice chairman of Sanmar Group and ex-president of the (CII) Confederation of Indian Industry, in praise of his assistance to strengthen economic connections between India and Japan.

In a press release published, the Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai stated that Mr. Kumar, as president of CII in the year 1997–98, led an economic council to Japan, where India’s foremost business leaders assembled Prime Minister Hashimoto and other Japanese leaders. He also encouraged the comfort of doing business in India via steps to accelerate infrastructure growth, modernize corporate governance, and orient Japanese productivity management.

Additional Info- Since the year 2015, Mr. Kumar has performed as president, and thereafter as chairman of the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In this span, he has fostered mutual arrangements between the 2 countries by managing two economic representatives to Japan and on several occasions on the Japanese economy and culture.

About the Award: The Order of the Rising Sun is a Japanese award, founded in the year 1875 by Emperor Meiji. The Order was the 1st national decoration vested by the Japanese govt., formed on 10 April 1875 by regulation of the Council of State. The badge has rays of sunlight from the rising sun.

The order is granted to those who have assembled distinguished accomplishments in international relations, the buildup of Japanese culture, advances in their field, and development in welfare or preservation of the environment. Before the end of World War II, it was also given for exemplary military service.
