Many of you might already know, MediaTek recently launched 5G Open Resource Architecture which opens up many custom tweaking capabilities for the chipsets that are under this architecture.

This is an opportunity for us to create a positive word around how MediaTek is now allowing custom enhancements to OEMs, which has long been counted as a negative for its chipsets.

But now it seems, the Taiwanese company is all set to scratch off those negative points off its name and offer something new and interesting.

With MediaTek’s new open resource architecture, device makers have a choice for their 5G multimedia experiences. They can embrace and tune MediaTek’s own AI Picture Quality (AI-PQ) and AI Super Resolution (AI-SR) or they can develop their own algorithms with customized video parameter/scenario detection. This can be backed by their own deep learning data, to dynamically adjust display elements like contrast, color, sharpness, brightness and more. Device makers get access to the in-chip, multi-core AI processor and display processors to unlock more synergy between the chip and the smartphone’s display type and audio hardware tailoring the multimedia experience.

MediaTek is opening up the architecture of its high-end 5G Dimensity 1200 chips, allowing phone makers to customize several elements for their smartphones.

Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture, MediaTek will give brands the ability to tweak five dimensions of the Dimensity 1200 to suit their preferences. The new initiative will allow phone manufacturers to customize multimedia, multiprocessing, AI, cameras, and connectivity.

The open architecture will allow multiprocessing customization by letting brands assign custom workloads to different parts of the chip.

Built on the foundation of MediaTek’s NeuroPilot, device makers will now have greater access to the Deep Learning Accelerator (DLA) found inside the MediaTek APU. This includes applying customizations to the multi-threaded scheduler, using customized algorithms, or embracing the MediaTek DLA’s unique capacity to process INT8, INT16 and FP16 tasks together, within a single AI hardware, for improved precision, performance and power-efficiency.

All we need to do now is to wait for MediaTek’s Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture customized chipsets to hit the markets and how it changes the game for MediaTek.
