We are not even over the omicron variant yet, and here is the new variant discovered. The Covid-19 has taken a hold on our lives since more the beginning of the year 2019, and to be honest, we have gotten a habit of living like this, mask on our face, sanitiser in our bag and many such things. Talking about the IHU, Amid Omicron Terror, France Declares a strong variant ‘IHU’, reporting in 12 people with travel background from the Cameroon positive. Nevertheless, the researchers stated that it is too earlier to imagine how this variant behaves as far as disease and preservation from vaccines is involved.

Here is a checklist of specialities known about the latest IHU so far:

  • Its existence was 1st noticed by professionals at the IHU Mediterranee Infection in Marseille.
  • It has been united to travel to Cameroon, a nation in Africa. Omicron was also found in the southern part of Africa in November 2021 and speedily took the planet in its grasp.
  • At least 12 patients of the latest IHU variant were noted near Marseilles in France earlier in December 2021. They are supposed to be connected to the index case that returned from Cameroon. The investigation began after the finding of the cluster.

More About It

According to a piece assigned on medRxiv, the genomes were acquired by next-generation sequencing with the Oxford Nanopore Technologies on GridION tools. It further told that the mutations have yielded 14 amino acid substitutions and 9 amino acid omissions— which are discovered in the spike protein.

“14 amino acid substitutions, including N501Y and E484K, and 9 deletions are located in the spike protein. This genotype pattern led to creating a new Pangolin lineage named B.1.640.2, which is a phylogenetic sister group to the old B.1.640 lineage renamed B.1.640.1,” the research paper said.

The B.1.640.2 has not been stained in other nations or labelled a variant under examination by the (WHO) World Health Organization.

“The mutation set and phylogenetic position of the genomes obtained here indicate based on our previous definition a new variant we named IHU,” the authors of the investigation said.

“These data are another example of the unpredictability of the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants, and of their introduction in a given geographical area from abroad,” they counted.

So this is something I get to know about the IHU, I hope that this gets over very soon.
