The Parsi New Year, also generally comprehended as Nowruz or Navroz, is widely observed in India by the Parsi society. The word Nowruz emanated from an ancient Persian term where ‘now’ represents new and ‘ruz’ indicates day. So, jointly the word means a ‘new day. On this day, Parsi households across the country visit the sacred temples to present prayers. The day is observed to celebrate new starts and usher in a year rich with expectancy and joy.

This year i.e. 2022, Parsi New year will be honored on Tuesday, 16 August. On this Parsi New Year, many standard Parsi dishes, involving Farcha, Berry Pulao, and Jardaloo Chicken are also designed.

Parsi New Year 2022 celebrations, like most festivals, are marked by sporting new dresses and having to get jointly with family and companions. On this day, gifts are also swapped. In India, mainly Maharashtra and Gujarat, where a sizeable number of Parsi people reside, festivities are typically seen in these regions.

History: The origin of the Parsi New Year or Navroz is considered to date back about 35,000 years. This was the period when Prophet Zarathustra established Zoroastrianism in Persia, Iran nowadays.

Parsi New Year, as per the Zoroastrian principles, marks the annual revival of everything in the heavens. The word Navroz finds its connection with Jamshed, an ancient Sasanian King who is acknowledged to have presented the Parsi Calendar, thus, the festival is also named Jamshed-i-Nouroz.
