Test-fire of Agni Prime Missile

On 18th December 2021, the DRDO successfully test-fired the new-gen Agni-P of the Agni class ballistic missile with a span of 1000 to 2000 kilometres. The test was accomplished from a defence ground off the Odisha coast in the Balasore, government administrators said. The Agni-P is a new generation developed variant of the Agni category of missiles. The test was done at 11.06 am in the morning.

About the Agni missile

The Agni missile is a clan of medium to intercontinental-range ballistic missiles which was generated by India, called after one of the 5 elements of nature. Agni missiles are long-range, nuclear weapons qualified, and surface to surface ballistic missiles.

The latest Agni P can be utilised to target rival warships in the Indo-Pacific. Agni course of missiles is the centrepiece of India’s nuclear takeoff capability which also contains the Prithvi short-range ballistic, submarine-launched ballistic missiles and the fighter aircraft.

Coming to the latest achievement, “Various telemetry, radar, electro-optical stations and downrange ships positioned along the eastern coast tracked and monitored the missile trajectory and parameters. The missile followed textbook trajectory, meeting all mission objectives with a high level of accuracy,” the DRDO expressed in a statement.

“Agni P is a two-stage canister solid-propellant ballistic missile with dual redundant navigation and guidance system. The second flight test has proven the reliable performance of all the advanced technologies integrated into the system,” it said.w

The Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh complimented the DRDO for this successful missile trial and defined happiness for the outstanding performance of the approach. Also, Dr G Satheesh Reddy, DRDO Chairman relished the efforts of the group for the 2nd flight test trial with numerous additional features.

The test assembled all its mission goals with a heightened level of accuracy, it said. The missile, which has been created and developed entirely by the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), was correct and effective to the end. The successful test evolves yet another jump towards the government’s ‘Make in India’ endeavour. It is really a proud moment for our country.
