The 44th Chess Olympiad’s Logo Unveiled in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has launched the logo and mascot of the 44th Chess Olympiad and said that hosting this sporting event is an “absolute honour” for their capital city.
The event will take place in place of Mamallapuram next month. Between the day of July 28 and August 10, around 2,000 players from 180 nations will compete in this international event. Mr. MK Stalin also launched a countdown clock for the Olympiad at the Greater Chennai Corporation’s headquarters, Ripon Buildings.
Discussing the mascot, the ‘Thambi’ is a knight dressed in the Tamil attire Veshti (Dhoti) with a shirt and is also seen with folded hands, extending the Tamil greeting ‘Vanakkam’.
The phrase “Chess Believe” is seen on its shirt.
“Hosting the 44th Chess Olympiad is an absolute honour for Chennai and all our officials are putting assiduous efforts to make it a grand and memorable success in the history of Indian Sports,” CM Stalin tweeted. “In the run-up to the prestigious event, I released the official logo & mascot ‘Thambi’,” further added.
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu, Ministers for Health Ma. Subramanian, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Siva V. Meyyanathan, and also Tourism Minister M. Mathiventhan were there at the event.
Greater Chennai Corporation, Mayor R. Priya, V. Irai Anbu, Chief Secretary, and president of All India Chess Federation Sanjay Kapoor, as well as some officials, were in attendance.
This is the 2nd international chess event to be hosted by the state of Chennai, after the World Championship match between India’s Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen way back in the year 2013. Preparations for this upcoming international tournament are going on at an exciting pace.
