The Bully-Bai Application Incident
A year after the “Sulli Deals”, an ‘auction’ of vocal Muslim females on social media, started an uproar, another wretched application, “Bulli Bai” has misapplied pictures and targeted females from the community.
The Bulli Bai app seemed to be a copy of the application Sulli Deals which had triggered a comparable row last year. Once unlocked, a Muslim female’s face was randomly shown as Bulli Bai. Muslim women with a powerful presence on Twitter, involving journalists, have been singled out and their pictures uploaded.
The matter was conveyed to the directive of IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw by Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Twitter. Chaturvedi stated she has raised the concern with Mumbai Police and asked that the offenders should be charged at the earliest.
The contentious Bulli Bai application showed doctored looks of influential Muslim females with a scathing motto that read “Sulli deal of the day”. It is to be reported that ‘Sulli’ is a demeaning term utilised against women. The app founders would have used the pictures illegally acquired from the women’s social media holds and convinced people to take a position in the “auction”.
The woman who ensconced an objection against the app Bulli Bai, works with an online news outlet. In her complaint, she said, “The term ‘Bulli bai’ itself seems disrespectful and the content of this website/portal is clearly aimed at insulting Muslim women as the derogatory term ‘Bulli’ is used exclusively for Muslim women and the entire website seems to have been designed with the intent of embarrassing and insulting Muslim women.”
Action Against It
Mumbai Police Cyber Cell imprisoned a 21-year-old engineering student from the city Bengaluru, in association with the ‘Bulli Bai’ case on Monday, 3 January.
Mumbai Police has not exposed the originality of the suspect imprisoned from Bengaluru yet, besides his age. Police have reported a case against unknown offenders under applicable sections of IPC and the IT Act.
While talking about the case, a senior IPS officer said, “The 21-year-old is a second-year civil engineering student. He used his Twitter handle to share derogatory content from the Bulli Bai app. We have detained him.” He declared that the charged person was drafted using the IP address of his Twitter, which was utilised to upload images.
Next, the news is saying that the Mumbai Police has imprisoned a woman, who is considered to be the main blamed person in the ‘Bulli Bai’ case. She will be delivered to Uttarakhand court for transit remand.
This is such a piece of disturbing news for many of us, and the culprits should get punished as they deserve it.
